A septarian nodule is a rock whose name comes from the Latin word septum meaning a dividing partition between cavities. This distinctive stone is highly polished and is categorized as rock as it is comprised of three materials. Septarian is known to have formed during the Cretaceous Period. Septarian forms in water as minerals and organic matter accumulated gradually and hardened over millions of years.
